How to find a job as a divemaster

Becoming a divemaster is an exciting career choice for those passionate about scuba diving and the underwater world. Now as you are a certified professional of PADI, you can search for a job. What shall you do first?

You need to start with creating a Resume. Develop a professional CV highlighting your dive certifications, experience, and any additional relevant skills. Indicate what languages you speak and if you have permission to work in the country where you apply for the job. Mention all skills that can be valuable in diving industry, for example, technical skills to repair equipment, underwater phtography, marketing online, blogging, sales, boat driving license. The more information you include, the better chance you stand to be invited for an interview.

How do you search for a vacancy?

There are many online platforms where professional divers look for a job. Dive centers all over the world publish job openings there. First, you need to understand where you would like to work and then search by the region. In some countries you will be required to get a work permit. That can be difficult to get in some cases. Dive centers do not propose to make the papers for you as they have normally no power for that. You can also reach out to dive shops, resorts, and liveaboards directly. Many dive operations prefer direct communication. Send your resume and express your interest in any potential divemaster positions.

To build a trustable profile create a professional online presence, such as a LinkedIn profile or a personal website. Showcase your qualifications, experiences, and any additional skills that make you a valuable divemaster.

Consider also advancing your skills and taking the next step in your career by becoming a certified scuba diving instructor. This can significantly broaden your job opportunities in the dive industry.

Finding a divemaster job may take time, so stay positive and persistent. Keep refining your skills and actively seek out opportunities.
